Meet Scott
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
Influenced by his father’s side business designing and constructing houses, Scott developed a passion for drawing and animation at a young age which eventually became the catalyst of his career in architecture. While Scott initially landed in art school to become an animator, architecture steadily became a newfound passion that evoked creativity and purpose.
After graduating from architectural school at UC Berkeley, Scott worked intentionally as a construction manager to experience all facets of the industry. This is where he also fell upon a gap in the market: the ability of architects and construction professionals to effectively communicate. This experience kept Scott grounded in creativity while also adopting realistic project execution practices… both facets of design that live as the foundation for Design Smith Architects.
Our Process

We take the time to listen to you to best understand your goals, timeline, and budget while determining how we can add the most value to your project. If we decide we’re a good fit for each other, we prepare a proposal for the project schedule and design fees.

Our team takes the necessary time to research your property and confirm that the zoning laws allow us to build your vision. If your project entails an addition or renovation, we measure your existing conditions and then proceed to create a set of drawings that clearly articulate the current state of the project and site.

This is where your dreams and vision begin to take shape as we put them together on paper. We utilize 3D models and renderings to illustrate various options for your project. Floor plans, elevations, and 3D views convey the proposed designs while helping you visualize the outcome.

Based on your input and decision point, we then refine the design in photorealistic renderings to see your designs taking shape.

Our construction documents are a full permit-ready plan including all of the dimensions and details you need to build out your project. Also known as contract documents, the plans we create serve as the basis for the contract you sign with your builder of choice. Our construction documents are detailed and comprehensive considering more complete drawings leave less room for differing interpretations by all the parties involved.
